Profile: Bernhard Struck is Reader / Associate Professor in Modern European History at the University of St Andrews (UK, since 2007). He did his undergraduate degree in History, Philosophy and Political Science in Berlin and Lyon (France). His PhD was a joint degree between the Technical University Berlin and the Université Paris 4 – Sorbonne (2003). Between 2003 and 2006 he was lecturer at the Technical University Berlin and the Free University Berlin. At St Andrews he was the founding director of the Institute for Transnational & Spatial History. His research areas cover the history of travel, border lands, the history of science and cartography, the interrelation between climate and territories from the late eighteenth century to the early twentieth century. His main geographical focus is on the German lands, Poland, France, and the Czech lands. Since 2019, he is principal investigator of the collaborative project “Esperanto and Internationalism, c.1880s - 1930”.

Inter 2003 kaj 2006 li estis lektoro ĉe la Teknika Universitato Berlino kaj la Libera Universitato Berlino. Ĉe St Andrews li estis la fonda direktoro de la Instituto por Transnacia & Spaca Historio. Liaj esploraj kampoj kovras la historion de vojaĝoj, landlimoj, historion de scienco kaj kartografio, la interrilaton inter klimato kaj teritorioj de la fino de la 18a jarcento ĝis la komenco de la 20a jarcento. Lia ĉefa geografia fokuso estas la germanaj landoj, Pollando, Francio kaj la ĉehaj landoj. Ekde 2019 li estas la ĉefa enketisto de la kunlabora projekto "Esperanto kaj Internaciismo, ĉ. 1880aj jaroj - 1930".
