UK Language Policy after Brexit 2017: The influence of devolution

September 21, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

Following on from the inaugural UKLPAB conference in 2016, the theme of this year’s meeting will be devolution and the extent of policy variation post-Brexit. What will be the significance of Brexit for language policies adopted by UK nations?

Potential themes could include:

  • Will Brexit be significant for strategies and policies adopted by UK nations to promote minority languages and signed languages?
  • Given that education is devolved, how might the teaching of modern foreign languages be approached differently across the UK?
  • How might overarching macro-economic changes brought about by Brexit influence language policies, including those of broadcasters and health bodies?

The event is free. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
